Head of Dera Sachcha Sauda,Ram Rahim who is serving a 20-year jail sentence for rape and murder,is out on parole for a day, finally.Significantly,Ram Rahim has continuously been applying for parole to come out of the jail, but it was getting rejected for one or the other reason. But this time he applied for the parole citing his mother’s illness, which was accepted.

Ram Rahim has been granted parole to meet his ailing mother.According to sources,Ram Rahim had applied for parole on 17 May and requested sunaria jail Superintendent Sunil Sangwan to grant him parole.

A few days back Ram Rahim was hospitalized at PGI, Rohtak after his blood pressure dipped in jail.He desired to meet Honeypreet while he was in the hospital.

Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been convicted in two different cases. He is serving a 20-year jail sentence for raping two of his disciples and he is also serving a life sentence for murdering a journalist. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on 25 August,2017.

A little reminder,Ram Rahim was granted parole in October,2020 to meet his ailing mother. But he was granted parole in a secret manner, for which Haryana govt received a lot of criticism, although Haryana’s Minister for Power and Prisons Ranjit Singh justifed it claiming that he was granted parole as per law.Ranjit Singh said,“There is a provision under the law that in case of an emergency in the family of a convict the prisoner is allowed to visit his family under police protection.”

Sunaria Jail Superintendent Sunil Sangwan when asked about granting of parole this time over phone, told news agency PTI, “Following his emergency parole plea, we have written to the Haryana Police in this regard and sought NoC from them.”

The prison officials have also forwarded the documents regarding the ailment of Dera chief’s mother to the concerned authorities to verify them.

The Dera chief in August 2017 was sentenced to 20-year in jail in two rape cases.Journalist Ramchandra Chhatrapati had exposed the blatant exploitation of the female disciples at the Dera in 2002 for the first time.Ramchandra was editor of a regional evening daily ‘poora sach’ in Sirsa in which he had published an

anonymous letter, reportedly written by a ‘sadhvi’ narrating the plight of female disciples and accusing the Dera Chief of sexually exploiting them.Ramchandra was

shot dead in October,2002, within months of publishing the letter. His family sought a CBI enquiry into his death in 2003.In July 2007,CBI filed its chargesheet after an intensive probe into the matter.
