There is a change in the attitude of the social media company Twitter, which is procrastinating to follow the new digital rules 2021 of the Government of India. As a result, Twitter has issued a statement taking a soft stand on this matter.

However, Twitter has said that it has remained fully committed to India and is also facilitating public discussion in this regard on its platform. A Twitter spokesperson said on behalf of the company on Wednesday that we have assured the Government of India that Twitter is doing everything possible to comply with the new guidelines.

We have appointed Nodal Officer and Resident Grievance Officer regularly to comply with the underlying intent behind the guidelines. In addition, Twitter wrote to the Government of India regarding compliance with IT regulations.

We do recruitment to fill up the post permanently. We are in the advanced stages of finalizing the appointment of a Chief Compliance Officer, and we plan to provide you with additional details over the next several days.

Earlier, the government had issued a strong-worded final notice to the company for non-compliance with the new rules last week. When contacted, a Twitter spokesperson said the company has always been committed to India and has facilitated meaningful public discussions on its platform.

Under this new rule, large social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp will need to take additional measures. This includes the appointment of Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Officer, and Grievance Officer in India, etc. Major social media platforms were given three months to comply with the new rules.
